Hello!

Marvelous Ceramics was born out of the strange, dislocating world of COVID — that period many of us emerged from blinking, a little lost, and quietly desperate for human connection. For me, the answer was to throw myself into something I’d always loved, somewhere I’d have to show up, meet people, and use my hands.

I signed up for a hand-building class in 2022 and never looked back.

The truth is, clay and I go way back. I was the kid at the back of the classroom, half-listening, methodically turning a lump of blu-tack into a dinosaur or whatever creature came to mind that day. I’ve always been tactile — I think in three dimensions. Art classes were a highlight of school, and I can still picture the ceramic family dog I made as clearly as I can picture the dog itself. Walking back into a ceramics workshop felt like coming home to something I’d forgotten I missed.

As for the name — most artists put their name to their work, and for good reason. But Marcus Whistler had spent his career in tech, and however exciting that sounds, my friends assumed I fixed printers for a living. A clean break felt right. Marvelous Ceramics lets me keep the M — my maker’s mark — while pointing toward something new.

Because honestly? Life is marvelous. This is the next chapter.
